What are the benefits of using LED around our eyes?
“The eye area is usually the first to show signs of aging. It’s also one of the most delicate, which makes it prone to inflammation and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. LED light is a safe, clinically proven way to firm, smooth, and brighten this area by boosting collagen and calming inflammation,” explains Dr. Gross.

According to Dr. Gross, “A dedicated LED eye mask is specifically designed for the delicate eye area, targeting concerns like puffiness and dark circles with a more precise fit and gentler treatment.” He recommends starting “with a full-face LED device to treat the complexion, and follow with an eye-specific device for targeted care.”
“Treatment sessions are short and localised. A full-face device provides broader coverage, stimulating collagen, improving tone and texture, reducing inflammation, and addressing acne,” shares Dr. Zamani.
“Both devices can be complementary: the face mask for global rejuvenation and the eye mask for precision treatment of persistent periorbital concerns,” she adds.
Do you need to reach a certain age to start using an LED eye mask?
“Typical users tend to be those who are reaching late thirties/early 40s when fine lines and wrinkles are starting to form in the area. However, LED is great to use at any age (after 18) if you wish to incorporate it into your skincare routine,” says Laurence Newman, CEO and Founder of CurrentBody.
Meanwhile, Dr. Zamani shares that “preventive use typically begins in the mid-20s, when collagen production naturally declines.”
“In younger individuals, LED is used more commonly under supervision for acne management, and most consumer devices are cleared for use from mid-teens onward,” she explains.
How often should you use an LED eye mask?
“Consistency is everything. You won’t see results if the device is just sitting on your shelf,” reiterates Dr. Gross. “Some people prefer morning use to reduce puffiness and brighten their eyes before makeup. Others enjoy it as part of a calming nighttime ritual. In about four weeks, you’ll begin to see visible improvements in firmness, brightness, and smoothness, with continued benefits over time,” he says.
While some users will benefit from using it daily, Dr. Zamani shares that “recommended use is 3 to 5 sessions per week for minutes, depending on the device’s specifications.”
What should I keep in mind when shopping for an LED eye mask?
“Not all LED devices are created equal. Look for masks that use multiple wavelengths, including red light for collagen stimulation and infrared for deeper penetration and enhanced circulation,” recommends Dr. Gross.
“Infrared light can reach the dermal layers without heating the skin, making it ideal for sensitive areas like the eyes. Also, ensure the device is FDA-cleared and clinically tested for safety and efficacy. The goal is to deliver therapeutic energy without irritation or risk,” he shares.
