Lip oil nails are cute, sheeny and about to be everywhere

Our obsession with remixing makeup trends into a dreamy mani moment is clearly going nowhere. Straight off the back of lipgloss nails, ‘lip oil nails’ are emerging as the sheeny-sheer baby sis that’s juicy, polished and seriously cute.

It makes sense, the Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil has pretty much broken the beauty internet, thanks to TikTok, where the Dior lip oil hashtag has over 650 million views. NYX has just released its Fat Oil. Selena just added a Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil to her Rare line-up and Merit has created a new sheerer Gelee rendition of its much-loved Shade Slick lip oil. So it was only a matter of time before our nails wanted in on the action.

“Lip oils are trending all over social media, and it’s spilling over to nails,” confirms Tinu Bello, Senior Brand Ambassador Mylee, adding, “this celebrity favourite look replicates the sheen that a lip oil leaves.”

The vibe is next-level sheer tinted shine, vs the slightly milkier finish of lipgloss nails. “It’s all about that glossy topcoat – you want your nails to shine from every angle and sort of look like jelly,” Tinu explains. As with lipgloss nails, this leans more towards minimalism with nails looking semi-bare, with a wash of something pretty on top.

Interested in having a go yourself? “To tap into the trend at home, start with nails that are buffed, super clean, and immaculately filed into shape,” advises Tinu. “For the base colour, choose between a sheer nude, a pearlescent pink, or a bright popping hue. Lastly, and most importantly, apply a few coats of a glossy topcoat for the ultimate lip oil finish.” You want the hint of tint you applied on the base to look like it’s suspended in a splash of nourishing oil .
