When will Peaky Blinders return to TV? What we know about season 7

Who will be in the cast of Peaky Blinders season 7?

Sorry to disappoint, but we’re no closer to any cast announcements either. What we do know, however, is who will be working magic behind the scenes. There’s Knight, of course, who is also joined by Cillian Murphy as an executive producer, alongside some top dogs at BBC, Netflix and the show’s production companies, Kudos and Garrison Drama.

“This game-changing show made a huge impact when it first came to our screens 12 years ago and it is one of the BBC’s most-loved dramas,” said Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama. “Steven has worked his magic once again, and I can’t wait for his scripts to be brought to life when filming begins in Birmingham.”

Netflix’s Mona Qureshi has weighed in on the news, too: “There are few modern storytellers to match Steven Knight, and we will be on the edge of our seats as he returns to the streets of Birmingham and to the next generation of the Shelby family. Along with our global audience, we are ready to be captivated anew!” Very intriguing.

What will Peaky Blinders 7 be about?

Here’s where we get to the good stuff. Season seven will jump forward in time once again, taking us to post-war Britain as Shelby’s stomping ground in Birmingham rebuilds itself after being brutally bombed. There are hints that Cillian Murphy’s character might be largely absent from the series, as the narrative focuses on the next-gen of Shelby gang bosses. But don’t be too sad – Knight still promises to deliver the same high-stakes grit as series seven’s predecessors. “Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz,” he teased. “The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.”

Again, more specific details are locked up for now, but the BBC did elaborate on Knight’s comments in their statement: “In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger: with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.” Consider us locked in.
