HUNTR/X is at the Oscars! Well, the singing voices behind Rumi, Mira, and Zoe are, anyway. EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, who voice the demon-slaying pop trio in the wildly popular Netflix film Kpop Demon Hunters, just hit the red carpet in some very on-theme “Golden” looks.
If you haven’t gotten “Golden” out of your head since you first watched the successful animated movie, you’re not alone; it’s nominated for Best Original Song and will be performed at the ceremony. For the red carpet, the trio opted to pay homage to the song with their outfits, each wearing gold and black looks that coordinated perfectly without looking costume-y. EJAE wore a strapless, beaded gold Dior gown with a beautifully draped bodice, front slit, and side train with a fringed hem that began at the hip of her dress.
Audrey Nuna went for a more avant-garde silhouette in a high-collared jacket and ballgown silhouette by Thom Browne, with gorgeous gold beading all over the jacket, flowing into an enormous black skirt. Nuna told Vogue that she has a personal connection to the brand, as her family members worked in the garment industry. “Thom Browne was one of the first orders that my grandpa fulfilled when he was making his living,” she told the magazine. “[It’s] one of the ones that I remember most vividly growing up.”
Rei Ami went short in a beaded gold and black mini, atop which she wore a stunning black opera coat with ornate gold beaded birds. “To do gold felt like the sacred thing that we wanted to do at the culmination, so we really held off on that,” Nuna told Vogue of the trio’s decision to save the colour for the final awards show of the season.
