Silk scarves have a long history in the fashion world – but in recent years, we haven’t seen much of them. That is all about to change. This autumn, delicate scarves are once again taking centre stage on the catwalks and on the streets.
But this season, something’s a little different. Fashion It-girls are no longer simply tossing their scarves around their necks – they’re experimenting with all kinds of creative styling tricks.
Here are three ways you can repurpose your silk scarf this season.
1. With a baseball cap
We’ll admit it: worn around the neck, a silk scarf can quickly look quite conservative. Gucci’s styling for autumn/winter 2025/26 shows that there is another way. On the catwalk, a model wore a pink baseball cap with a matching silk scarf wrapped around it and loosely knotted under her chin. This gave the classic accessory a casual touch without losing any of its elegance. A guest at Paris Fashion Week also tried this look. She broke added a modern twist to the traditional Chanel two-piece with her combination of cap and silk scarf.
2. Wrapped around the waist
Another way to wear a silk scarf is to wrap it around your hips in a triangle and knot it at the side. This creates a layered look where you can play with different textures and colours. One visitor to Copenhagen Fashion Week, for example, chose a subtle shade but wore the scarf over a pair of jeans – the resulting material contrast of robust denim and delicate silk instantly enhances the simple look.
3. On the bag
Probably the easiest way to integrate a silk scarf into your look is to tie it to the handle of your bag – either loosely knotted or as an elegant bow. This way, the bag is deliberately accentuated and becomes the focal point of your outfit.
