Gomez has been wearing a simple, lovely, rosy mauve nail colour on the regular lately, perhaps because it feels like such a natural fit for the warm, cosy vibes of the new Rare Beauty fragrance, the aptly named Rare. The colour popped up in a recent Instagram photo dump from a friend’s wedding; you have to scroll all the way to the end to see it, but it’s worth it.
The nail colour, which Gomez wore to the wedding alongside a red halter gown and matching bright red lip, is a gorgeous, earthy blend of mauve, beige, and brown tones. It’s not quite pink, per se, but more of a brownish-rose shade that feels both neutral and glamorous at the same time—with a bit of throwback energy reminiscent of the popular nail polishes of the ‘80s and early ’90s. She wore it on short nails filed into a gentle squoval shape for an easy elegance that worked well at a formal wedding event, but would work just as well for everyday wear too.

I don’t know about you, but when I saw Selena Gomez’s nail colour, I instantly thought of her pal Taylor Swift’s song August. It conjures up visions of “salt air and the rust on your door”, as Swift sings, or watching the sunset on the beach. The rosy polish feels softly summery, but could easily transition to autumn with the addition of a cosy cashmere sweater or your favourite leather jacket… and maybe a pumpkin spice latte.
