Will there be a ‘Supacell’ season 2?

Supacell has quickly become our latest obsession, with the British superhero series storming Netflix’s charts to secure a spot in the platform’s global top 10 within days of its release and having already been watched 6.4m times (and counting). Created by Rapman (Blue Story), the six-part series is the first original Netflix series to be written and produced by a Black filmmaker for the streamer and offers up a perfect blend of sci-fi, South London and the supernatural.

Supacell follows the story of “A group of ordinary people from South London” who “unexpectedly develop super powers with no clear connection between them other than them all being Black,”

Per Netflix’s synopsis, “As they deal with the impact on their daily lives, one man has to bring them together to protect the one he loves — all while avoiding the powerful and nefarious agents that have noticed their special abilities.

Through the series we see Michael (Tosin Cole) tap into his newfound powers to time travel in an effort to save his girlfriend Dionne (Adelayo Adedayo) from her unfortunate impending fate, though it’s clear that Michael is grappling with a totally unfamiliar world of drug and gang culture.

On this, the show’s creator Rapman says “It skews the assumption that all people of colour know that world and know how it works. Those scenes are so important to me because they think everyone Black must know it and that all Black people must be familiar with that world.”

But will we be getting a Supacell season 2?

From the rate at which the show broke into Netflix’s top shows there’s definitely appetite for it, so here’s everything we know about a potential second season so far.

Will there be a Supacell season 2?

Though Netflix is yet to confirm Supacell season 2, in a recent interview the show’s creator Rapman revealed “I’ve told Netflix loads of times that I’ve got plans for multiple seasons. But you know how it goes, they’re gonna see how it does, and hopefully we get the next season.”
