The Hawk Tuah girl is everywhere at the moment. Chances are you haven’t been able to scroll through TikTok or Instagram lately without hearing her southern drawl on your screen. But, who is the Hawk Tuah girl and what the heck is ‘hawk tuah’ exactly?
Hawk Tuah is another viral moment in our ever-digital age. It came from a video posted to YouTube channel Tim & Dee TV video (skip to 9:56) where one of the hosts was asking people on Nashville’s Honky Tonk strip a whole bunch of intimate questions.
The viral part came when the girl, who her friend calls ‘Hailey’ in the video, is asked: “What’s one move in bed that makes a man go crazy every time?”

In a southern accent with a very dramatic hock and miming spitting on the microphone, she says: “Aw, you gotta give ’em that ‘Hawk Tuah’ and spit on that thang! You get me?” Yep, it’s totally NSFW.
After the clip went viral, the woman in the video who was quickly identified as Nashville resident Hailey Welch, soon became known as the ‘Hawk Tuah girl’.
While very little is known about Welch – and she made it clear she wants to keep it this way – she has teamed up with a local Tennessee business, Fathead Threads, to sell some Hawk Tuah merch (get that bag, girl!).
Jason Poteete, who runs the business and has ‘known Welch for years’, says he reached out to her after she went viral to turn it into a money-making opportunity.
“Of course she hasn’t gotten a dime from the first viral video that went out,” Poteete told the Rolling Stone.
“Nobody was asking permission for her to do nothing, neither. I just wanted her to get some profit off of this deal.”
Poteete added that Welch has now got an agent, and has been in touch with a lawyer to trademark the phrase ‘Hawk Tuah’, though she doesn’t want her face featuring on the merch.
The brand is currently selling several different styles of caps, including signed versions with Welch’s signature. Poteete said that they had so far sold around 2,000 hats, earning an estimated $65,000 (£51,418).
