Previously, Disney’s Wish premiered on Disney+ more than three months after hitting cinemas, while Elemental followed a similar release schedule, being released in mid June 2023 before arriving on the platform in September.
Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter confirmed that Inside Out 2 will have a 100-day theatrical window, meaning that until it’s through, the sequel won’t be available to watch on Disney+.
In an interview with Time, Docter said: “That’s how long we had for Elemental. When that movie came out we all said, ‘Oh, no, that didn’t open the way we thought it should!’. But as time went on, it just had legs. I don’t know if the marketing was wrong, the space was too crowded, or people thought it didn’t look interesting. But word of mouth made people go check it out. I think that would not have happened if we came out three weeks later on Disney+.”
With that in mind, the earliest we could probably expect to see Inside Out 2 drop on Disney+ is mid-September, with the streamer historically favouring Wednesday release days.

However, Disney are yet to confirm anything so this is very much speculation (and hoping!) for now.
The good news is that Inside Out 2 could be made available to buy or rent at home before that date, with Elemental being released digitally roughly two months after its release and a month before its streaming debut.
If Inside Out 2 were to follow similar timings, we could therefore expect it to be available to rent around mid-August.
When it does arrive on Disney+, fans will need to sign up for a subscription to the platform in order to have access to Inside Out, and Disney’s other huge catalogue of shows and films.
