Congratulations are in order for Anne Hathaway, the first person to make denim formalwear look this iconic since Britney Spears.
At the 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards on November 6, Hathaway changed the game with a two-piece denim ensemble from Ralph Lauren. On top, the Oscar winner wore a dark blue buttoned corset, which she paired with a dramatic denim skirt in a much lighter wash. Both pieces featured complementary floral patterns. Hathaway’s top would probably go with anything, but the skirt, with its sweeping train and ultra feminine pattern, was made for the red carpet.
Hathaway, styled as usual by Erin Walsh, dialled up the look’s drama with the jewels. Unlike many stars who have been eschewing necklaces altogether, Hathaway wore a stunning diamond collar necklace, adorned with a brilliant sapphire to match the blue of her outfit. She finished the look with stacks of diamond bangles, a sapphire cocktail ring, and loose, carefree hair.
This is not the first time Hathaway has had a little fun with denim. In October she styled a matching trousers and blouse set, each piece half denim, half suiting. We’ve seen her embrace the extra-oversized jeans look with serious enthusiasm, and she’s even taken a cropped denim jacket to the red carpet.
It’s been a long time since Anne Hathaway has had a fashion miss, and her bold jean looks are no exception.
