Toffee makeup is on the menu for autumn, so you can skip the pumpkin lattes

We’ve already seen latte makeup take off, but as predicted the yummy spin-offs have only just started. Case in point? Toffee makeup.

Spotted on the likes of Hailey Bieber, Yara Shahidi, Rita Ora, Jasmine Tookes and Selena Gomez, the pretty syrupy shade has been draped across eyes, cheeks and lips and it’s shaping up to be one of autumn’s most delicious trends.

What is toffee makeup?

So what exactly is toffee makeup? It takes its queen bee predecessor, latte makeup, as a good starting point (see: warm brown tones), then takes things in an even cosier direction for autumn. Australian makeup artist, Tanelle Jai, whose latte makeup references have been shared countless times across TikTok, was careful to point out the importance of using yellow undertones to achieve the latte look in her explainer video. “We’re going for yellow-based products. We’re staying away from red tones,” she said. However, toffee makeup embraces a hint of those rustier pink and red undertones to tap into some extra warmth.

It leans into the nineties nudes trend (that’s staying put next season), with its brown colour palette, only it offers a richer alternative to the summer honeys and caramels we’ve seen over the past few months. Those warmer undertones are the perfect pick-me-up as we head towards colder weather –and it’s a little romantic and seductive, too.
