This is the tourist-free Greek island you need to visit ASAP

Whether you’re seeking an off-grid trip or a romantic getaway, Patmos might just be the idyllic Greek island that you wish you considered sooner. While Santorini and Mykonos may be the go-to destinations when thinking of Greek getaways, Patmos offers an unparalleled and authentic experience that feels missing in the hustle and bustle of the crowds across other increasingly popular islands. With captivating views that resemble a picture-perfect postcard, crystal-clear turquoise waters that invite you to dive in, and a rich history that envelops the island, Patmos is undeniably a unique and unforgettable escape that showcases the very essence of Greece.

GEORGE FAKAROS – VISION REQUIRED

Well known for its rich religious heritage and serene spiritual atmosphere, this island holds a significant place in history as the very location where Saint John penned the Book of Revelations. Home to 3000 people and so small the perimeter of the island could be driven around in just an hour, the charm of Patmos stands out immediately after stepping off the ferry from Kos. Each corner truly encapsulates a part of history with the most beautiful churches well over 1000 years old and an off-grid ambiance – it’s a no-brainer why supermodels Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss returned for vacation 3 years in a row.

After 20 minutes of taking in the island views through the taxi window, we arrived at what could only be described as a slice of serenity. The Patmos Aktis hotel suites encapsulated tranquility and once I had walked into the lobby, I knew this would be my ultimate ‘switch off’ trip. Being the only 5-star hotel on the island, the resort boasts 56 suites, 2 waterfront restaurants and a five-star wellness centre with a curated menu of treatments to rejuvenate body and mind.

If that wasn’t enough to blow me away, I was then taken to the Aegean suite which I’d call home for the next four days and stood in awe for a good 15 minutes just taking in the breathtaking view that awaited me. With three distinct balconies to choose from, I was spoiled for choice as to which postcard-worthy view would greet me each morning. The spacious rooms and minimalist feel interior meant each time I stepped into the room a calmed energy had taken over me.
