TikTok is at it again, giving us the tea on the best tricks to get our makeup as good as the IG hotties or the Hollywood ‘it girls’. Ombre concealer is all the beauty girls know right now. This avant-garde method goes beyond your traditional under eye coverage, as it gives you colour correction, contour, brightening and the warmth of flushed-up high cheeks all in one.

Unlike other concealer techniques like the triangle, or the inner eye outer eye hacks – where you would use a single shade of concealer (a couple of hues lighter than your foundation shade) – this ombre concealer hack creates a gradient effect blending multiple concealer and blusher shades to seamlessly transition from one colour to another.

This approach aims to correct and balance various complexion concerns, from blemishes, redness, dark circles, and hyperpigmentation, while simultaneously contouring and brightening the under eye area. Sounds like a dream, we’re sold.

“The technique is a combination of two tried-and-true tricks: colour correcting and draping. Using a peach tone (or colour corrector) under your eyes has been used for years to help brighten and neutralise dark circles, and the placement of this blush is known as draping and has evolved over the years, but was very popular in the 70’s.” says makeup artist and founder of makeup brand Pearl Beauty, Elanna Pecherle.

The term carries around 4.9B views on TikTok and counting so it seems like this trend might not a gimmick, and has quickly dominated the beauty corner of TikTok. Something tells us technique might have just gained a permanent spot in our everyday makeup routines.

How to do ombre concealer:

So the good news is that you don’t have to be a celebrity MUA to be able to nail the ombre concealer technique. Elanna breaks down a step by step guide on how to achieve it with the most flawless finish.

Step 1: “To curate the technique in the correct shade order, choose a concealer that is two or three shades lighter than your foundation for your inner corner.”

Top Tip 1: “To avoid a muddled, patchy finish, stick with formulas of the same texture. Liquid concealer and liquid blush work best for this technique as they tend not to dry down so fast or get muddled with colour.

Step 2: “Next, choose one that is one shade lighter than your foundation for the next dot. You can add a third dot of concealer if you feel you need more cover for your under eyes.”

Step 3: “But for the third and fourth dot you can apply your blush shades, you can use two different shades; one lighter and one slightly darker, or you can use the same blush shade.”
