Margot Robbie let slip that she called on a Barbie perfume to get fully into character on the Barbie movie film set since her surroundings (especially her scent surroundings) helped put her in the headspace of a real-life Barbie girl.
Talking to Teen Vogue, Margot explained: “I decorated my trailer – I do this for all the characters I play now – but I went all out for this character of Barbie.” Talking specifics, she said there was: “pink stuff, fluffy stuff, things that make me happy. Things that are cute. Pictures of my friends, things like that, just so I’d be in a really happy, positive kind of mood.”
The cherry on top? “I had a Barbie perfume, so that’s always the final thing for my character…I think I relate to the smell associations, like scent memory is pretty strong for me, so as soon as I put the perfume on, I was like, ok, ready,” Margot explained.
Very sadly, she didn’t share the exact perfume she used, because we’re very intrigued to know. But, we’ve rounded up some of the best, yum Barbie perfume picks that fit the bill when it comes to pretty, pink scents that leave a delicious Barbie trail behind…
The intoxicating one
If Love Don’t Be Shy by Kilian sounds familiar, that’s because it was made famous by Rihanna after celebs who got close to the singer reported back on how ridiculously good she smelt. Lil Nas X even said she smelt “like heaven”. Then, her pal let slip it was Love Don’t Be Shy. As for the scent: it’s a syrupy gourmand that smells like cream soda, fluffy marshmallows and clouds of candy floss, blended with a glug of sensual vanilla. It’s ambrosial, warm, sweet, creamy and intoxicating, exactly how we’d imagine Barbie would smell. You can pick up a travel sized 7.5ml spritz of the scent from £38 while the full-size 50ml is £205.
The cute one
Burberry updated the Her fragrance with Her Elixir last year and we can already picture the bottle in Barbie land. This pretty much smells like strawberry milkshake in a spritz, but in the most delicious way. It’s milky and creamy with strawberry flirting in the mix, but it still feels lightweight. This scent is a girl next door number that doesn’t take itself too seriously – pretty and cute.
The fun one
Britney Spears Fantasy is pure cupcake vibes with a fun, tropical kiwi note and creamy white chocolate mixed in, too. It’s unashamedly sweet, fun and fabulous. Perfect for Disco Barbie, which might help explain why it’s one of the best-selling celeb scents of all time.
The flirty one
Parfums De Marly’s Delina is an ultra pink feminine scent. It opens with delicate, watery lychee before blossoming into a jammy Turkish rose. The fandom around this is real if you’re looking for a sweet and flirty floral.
The rebel one
The name alone states its intention, Phlur’s Not Your Baby may look super cute, but she’s not a dumb doll. This is a floral with a spicy cardamom kick that drifts into a powdery skin scent that’s all yours – no sharing.
The sexy one
Kayali Sweet Diamond Pink Pepper 25 starts a sweet, girly fragrance with glitter on top. It’s another lush, jammy rose, but spicy saffron and pink pepper add a sultriness in the dry down, it’s pillowy marshmallows and a touch of smoke.
The soft one
For a petal-soft scent, Jo Malone’s Peony & Blush Suede is perfect. Fresh, delicate peony delivers on upbeat Barbie vibes and creamy, nuzzly suede adds a cashmere like quality. This is wholesome, weekend Barbie, wearing a blush pink linen dress in the garden.
The elegant one
Miss Dior is a happy fruity floral that dries into a creamy vanilla base. It’s sweet, friendly and youthful, but in a way that still feels elegant. It’s pink and cute, but it’s also polished and pulled together, kinda like a Barbie doll.
