Angela Bassett, Martha Stewart and Ciara remember Tina Turner after her death

Tina Turner, the Queen of Rock and Roll, passed away at her home near Zurich, following a long illness, her manager confirmed to the Associated Press on May 24. She was 83.

During her 60-year career, Turner made lasting friendships both within the industry and outside it. Following the news of her death, collaborators like Mick Jagger as well as famous admirers like George Takei and Mia Farrow remembered the singer on social media.

“Rest in peace to one of my favorite artists of all time, the legendary queen of rock n’ roll Tina Turner,” wrote Magic Johnson on Twitter. “I’ve seen her many many times and hands down, she gave one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen. She always gave you your moneys worth.”

Angela Bassett, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her portrayal of Turner in the 1993 biopic What’s Love Got to Do With It, recalled working with the singer on the film in her 2022 Glamour US cover story. Turner often showed up on set, Bassett said, and offered to assist the young actor with her performance.

“You’re perfect,” Bassett remembers the singer telling her, to which she replied, “I cannot be perfect.”
