While polka dots might have been the most immediately visible print of the week, I couldn’t help noticing the crowd’s affinity for stripes. These weren’t muted pinstripes, though; the patterns leaned loud and even a little rugby-coded, with in-your-face colours and arresting sizes. (I found myself scrolling eBay for a vintage black-and-yellow striped tee after noticing an editor wearing a similar style to great effect.) Whatever you end up picking, just don’t be afraid to turn heads — that’s the whole point.

As silver jewellery continues to challenge the popularity of gold, showgoers at Copenhagen Fashion Week just ended up splitting the difference. 5. Modernising lace

As my colleague Madeline Dangmann pointed out, exaggerated lace trim popped up on just about everyone. While the satin camis and slip skirts could have read as sleepwear, the crowds in Copenhagen livened them up with smart styling: sporty nylon jackets or denim shirts up top, baggy jeans or knee-high boots below. (And thanks to all this layering, very little skin actually showed.) The effect was a little sultry and just a touch cheeky — exactly the right vibe for attending a fashion show or, say, meeting friends for brunch.
